Last December I captured a nearby neighbor's tree in early morning light.  The sun was coming in and out of the clouds highlighting, then dimming on the spindly branches.  A visual treat against the blue sky.

Winter in Vermont brings sunsets such as this bringing our many trees to life.  I especially appreciate the subtle gradation of the fiery orange to purplish blue of the twilight sky.

As you know, or don't, I spend a lot of time admiring tree branches and their unplanned figure ground interactions with each other.  It continues to fascinate me and inform my design thinking.

Letting Nature Speak - Lines Which Inspire

Today I skied Stowe's Mountain's heralded Perry Merrill trail in gorgeous March sun.

Hoar frost stuck intensely to the branches today frozen their from last night's sudden snow and drop in temperatures.  The upper reaches of the mountain was a wintry wonderland and a true albeit ironic gift of spring.

This is what inspires me to design.  Nature's gifts!

Fingers of branches reaching up to the sky yearning to burst forth with Spring's budding energy.

Reinterpreting Architectural Space & Everyday Objects

Last weekend I was out taking pictures of everyday things in our area and found this rusting farm implement.  

I am forever fascinated in the presence or gestalt objects create by the shadows they cast.  There is a rich interplay of the thing itself, its' shadow and the surface it is cast upon.  The shadow composition creates a different way to appreciate the vernacular farm implement and reinterpretes it as a composition.

 I am struck too by the space inside the curving metal fingers of the implement.  The collection of curves creates a space with a concave roof with a grassy ground surface.  It's an unlikely space for sure but one worth appreciating.

Kitchen Pattern & Texture Inspirations

Tonight I was fascinated with the textures and patterns of everyday objects and equipment in our kitchen.

It's interesting the inspiration laying around. The ability to re-interpret the every day, mundane things into something else entirely.

Foggy Day in Vermont

Please see this photo of a barn I see everyday on the drive to work from home to Waitsfield. This was an especially amazing day where the fog, early morning light and a working farm came together into something wonderful.
